07-08-2023
An international circular economy initiative led by Eczacıbaşı Consumer Products, in collaboration with various organizations, has received approval from Eureka.
Titled “Sustainable Use of Paper Waste Sludge in the Ceramic and Construction Materials Sectors,” the project aims to repurpose paper waste for applications across different industries.
Operating under the leadership of Eczacıbaşı Consumer Products’ R&D team, the project has been approved by Eureka—an international cooperation platform active in 47 countries that fosters industrial and technological research partnerships. TUBITAK serves as Eureka’s Turkish partner. Set to continue until 2025, the initiative seeks to broaden the scope of paper waste utilization, which has previously been limited to shoe insole production.
The project’s partners include Eczacıbaşı Group’s ESAN and one of Turkiye’s leading cardboard manufacturers, Varaka Paper. International collaborators, Zian Co. Ltd. and Korea Conformity Laboratories, play a key role in expanding the project’s reach globally. The initiative involves repurposing paper waste into construction and cement sector materials while also exploring material development using 3D printing technology.
“Our focus on sustainability drives us forward.”
Emphasizing the project's alignment with Eczacıbaşı’s sustainability vision, Eczacıbaşı Consumer Products CEO, Bülent Kozlu, stated: “Varaka Paper’s involvement underscores the importance of collaboration between organizations within the same sector. Our objective is to minimize waste year after year while repurposing residuals through circular economy initiatives. Driven by our commitment to sustainability and our initiative, ‘Our Promise to Tomorrow,’ we remain steadfast in our dedication to making a meaningful contribution to our planet.”
